Red Mountain Golf Club is built on a former tin mine in Kathu, about ten minutes from Patong and Phuket Town and 25 km from the airport. Owned by MBK, it is known locally as Phuket's most challenging course, with big elevation changes, rock faces and jungle; the 16th and 17th are the photo stops.

Carts are compulsory because the course is not walkable for most players, and caddies are mandatory, as across Thailand. Rounds are expected in about 4¼ hours with a marshal on course, groups are limited to four, and collared shirts are required. The club gives rain checks for rain-affected rounds.

Loch Palm Golf Club, also run by MBK, is next door, as is MBK's Tinidee Golf Resort hotel.

Weekend tee times go fast. Book ahead and check the visitor rules.
