Penang Golf Club, on the former Bukit Jambul course near Bayan Lepas, bills itself as the only championship 18-hole course on Penang Island. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. and dating from 1984, the par-72 layout measures 5,848 metres across hilly terrain, with Bermuda fairways, TifDwarf greens and views of both Penang bridges. It hosted the 1992 Malaysian Open, won by Vijay Singh.
Visitors should book through the golf counter on +604 644 2255 or +6019 408 2255; independent guides note that visitor access is easiest Monday to Thursday and restricted at weekends, and that a handicap, cart and caddie are required. Green fees are not published online.
The 32-bay, two-tier driving range is 250 metres long and stays open until 11pm, with professional lessons from Japanese and local coaches. The clubhouse has the Sakurajima Japanese restaurant, a golfers' terrace and a café.
Weekend tee times go fast. Book ahead and check the visitor rules.
