The Els Club Teluk Datai is an 18-hole, par-72 championship course designed by Ernie Els in the north-west corner of Langkawi, about 30 minutes' drive from Langkawi International Airport. It is routed through old rainforest beneath the Mat Chinchang mountains, and five signature holes follow the shoreline with views over the Andaman Sea and neighbouring islands.

Visitors book tee times online. The published rate is RM660 for 18 holes, including green fee, insurance and a shared cart; caddie fees are extra. The course is open from 7.30am until dusk.

There is a driving range (7am to 6.30pm), a golf shop, tennis court and the Hornbill Cafe. It sits close to the Datai Bay resorts, so it suits golfers combining a round with a beach stay.

Weekend tee times go fast. Book ahead and check the visitor rules.
